چکیده
This paper provides a state-of-the-art review about computational ontologies to raise awareness about this research area in the IS discipline and to explore areas where IS researchers can engage in fruitful research. This paper discusses the basic foundations and definitions pertaining to the field of computational ontologies. It reviews the intersection of computational ontologies with the IS discipline. It also discusses methods and guidelines for developing computational ontologies. The paper concludes with recommendations for important and emerging directions for research. The technical aspects of ontologies are presented in a companion paper [Sharman et al., 2004]. The companion paper provides a comprehensive review of the formalisms, languages, and tools used for specifying and implementing computational ontologies.

Computational Ontologies and Information Systems II: Formal Specification
This paper extends the study of ontologies in Part I of this study (Volume 14, Article 8 [Kishore et al, 2004] ) in the context of Information Systems. The basic foundations of computational ontologies presented in Part I are extended to formal specifications in this paper. This paper provides a review of the formalisms, languages, and tools for specifying and implementing computational ontolog...
متن کاملFoundations and Challenges of Change and Evolution in Ontologies (Dagstuhl Seminar 12441)
This report documents the program and the outcomes of Dagstuhl Seminar 12441 “Foundations and Challenges of Change and Evolution in Ontologies”, held from 28 October to 2 November 2012. The aim of the workshop was to bring together researchers working in the areas of logic-based ontologies, belief change, and database systems, along with researchers working in relevant areas in nonmonotonic rea...
متن کاملComputational Ontologies: Foundations, Representations, and Methods
In this tutorial, we address some of the fundamental concepts and design issues in ontology-driven information systems. We present the essential formalisms, computer languages and implementation issues with a comparison of selected ontologies. We conclude with an overview of the emerging discipline of ontological engineering. Specific guidelines for designing ontologies directions for future re...
متن کاملGrounded Theory as Foundations for Methods in Applied Ontology
Research into domain specific ontologies is difficult to treat empirically. This is because it is difficult to ground domain ontology while simultaneously being true to its guiding philosophy or theory. Further, ontology generation is often introspective and reflective or relies on experts for ontology generation. Even those relying on expert generation lack rigour and tend to be more ad-hoc. W...
متن کاملCentralized Clustering Method To Increase Accuracy In Ontology Matching Systems
Ontology is the main infrastructure of the Semantic Web which provides facilities for integration, searching and sharing of information on the web. Development of ontologies as the basis of semantic web and their heterogeneities have led to the existence of ontology matching. By emerging large-scale ontologies in real domain, the ontology matching systems faced with some problem like memory con...
